Lucid Motors, a California-based electric vehicle (EV) startup, has been gaining traction in the industry. Established in 2007, the company also supplies batteries to the Formula E racing series. Lucid's first vehicle, the Air luxury sedan, was unveiled in 2020 and deliveries began in the spring of 2021. The Air is manufactured at the company's plant in Arizona and sold directly to customers, following in Tesla's footsteps. The Dream Edition of the Air, equipped with a 113-kWh battery pack, boasts a range of up to 517 miles and can charge up to 300 miles in 20 minutes using a 350-kW DC fast charger. The car also packs a punch with up to 1,080 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, thanks to its dual motors. Lucid plans to release lower-priced models with less range over the next few years. The base model, with a sub-$80,000 price tag, is set to launch in 2022. Lucid's team includes former executives from Tesla, General Motors, and Mazda, among others. With its impressive specs and experienced team, Lucid could be the next successful EV startup.
